Introducing Shiv Swami: Shiv Swami belongs to a family of Indian miniature artists who have lived in Bikaner, Rajasthan, for 3 generations. Trained at the Beaux Arts, he is one of the most experienced painters in this field, and trains numerous students in his studio every year. Shiv holds two Guinness records for the world's smallest painting (2002 and 2003).
Course content: To teach his art, Shiv Swami uses traditional methods and tools: paint made by himself from minerals, plants, precious stones and gold and silver leaf. And to achieve the finest lines, he uses squirrel-hair brushes.
The students particularly appreciated Shiv Swami's pedagogy and technical skills. Participants made handmade paper with a white ochre background, then learned to create colors from stone pigments. They explored various painting styles, from delicate flowers to realistic animals, while mastering techniques such as line work, cross strokes and dots. Ornamentation with gold leaf, gold ink and gold powder added a masterful finishing touch. Each student leaves with a painting created during the workshop.
